Love, Dating, Fidelity, & Faith

To Have, To Hold
As part of the normal vows, these words should mean something
Especially if there is any spiritual reason
Sexual and Intimate fidelity is what they are supposed to mean
Dating is a chore
Mostly to root out the people who don’t fit the things I want
And clever, hidden acronyms make it all the more difficult
Like ENM which apparently means Ethically Non Monogamous
At first I thought this was a new music genre
The absurdity of it all
Like being non monogamous is at all ethical
Just break up with the person you’re cheating on that clearly knows it and doesn’t care about the bond you share
In my 20s I studied other religions
Went to different churches
To make sure I was following the correct religion and denomination
Because I can’t just take my upbringing as absolute truth
Because the people who raised me weren’t always the best to follow
Quite the opposite — great examples of what not to do
I am Christian, but I very much prefer church at home on the television or on my phone
I am not the most trusting person
And to let God handle things — is difficult for me
But that’s probably why I belong in a church — to learn my own lackings in the most merciful way possible
